taking the next step: transitioning from co-star to guest star

September 13, 2016 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Taking the next step in your acting career requires committing to unique, memorable choices – and doing it consistently.  From preparation to execution (including both the audition as well as working on set), this workshop will provide each actor with personal, in-depth instruction to delve deeper and make that leap to the next level of performance.  Actors will explore the differences between the two from their point of view and from the point of view of the casting director.  This advanced class will push your skill level and delve deep.

Features of the class include:

  • Insight into the nuances of casting guest star vs. co-star
  • Character creation: connecting to the emotional life of a guest star character
  • Script analysis: creating the nuances of the guest star callback
  • Improving your audition technique, from preparation to evaluation
  • Your work on set, being a guest star for the first time (or second time)
  • Advice on how to navigate the business side of this specific aspect of your career growth

This intensive is inspired by the growth of television and film in the MidAtlantic and Southeast.  It focuses specifically on the difference between co-star and guest star – and how actors can bridge that gap.  Erica and Richard will lead the group in analyzing examples on screen and page, working scenes, and discussing what both creative and business growth entail.

It is also is a unique opportunity to be coached by a well-respected acting coach and an experienced casting director at the same time – something that seldom, if ever, happens in LA or NYC.  It is an intense, hands-on session for the experienced actor; please come prepared to actively participate in a small, dynamic group, take risks and learn from each other.

All actors must have legitimate co-star credits to enroll in this class (recommended experience: 3+ co-star roles in film/television). Final admission to the class may require resume/reel review by instructor and/or arvold.education.

***THIS CLASS IS NOT AN AUDITION; while we encourage you to bring your materials for review, discussion and feedback, we will not be receiving any for submission to current projects.  Erica will be using her experience solely to educate participants.

arvold workshops focus on both the philosophical and pragmatic aspects of being a film artist.
